this service offer me?

of popular, full-featured scripts and provide them to you on a no risk, 7-day
free trial basis with full FTP access, POP3/SMTP email (including webmail),
private CGI-BIN, password-protected folder, a virtual URL and prompt, courteous
24/7 service and support via our
help desk.

our remote hosting service and you can cancel at any time if you are not
completely satisfied.
Q:
Do I have
to copy and paste any code or be familiar with HTML?
A:
No copying, pasting
or programming skills whatsoever are required in order to take full advantage
of our service because the process is almost entirely automated from the
initial setup of your account to the monthly billing of it. Our service is
designed to be easy for anyone to use wether you are a seasoned veteran or
a complete novice.
Q:
Do you
place ads or pop-ups on my site?
A:
No. We never
place any of these things on your site during the free trial period or at
any other time.
Q:
How long
will it take to set up my account?
A:
Most of the process
is streamlined and completely automated in order to offer you the quickest
and most efficient service possible. Accounts are usually set up in 20 minutes
or less and a welcome email containing your account details is sent to the
email address you provided when you filled out the secure form. Please be
sure to store this email in a safe place in case you need to refer to it
later.
Q:
Is it
possible to backup and/or restore my script's database?
A:
Many of the scripts
we host have a backup and/or restore feature in the admin control center
that permits you to restore your old database or back up a current one. You
can check to see if the script you want to use has either (or both) of these
features by simply viewing the demonstrations provided on each script page.
Of course, you can always put in a request at the
help desk
and we will be happy to create a backup of your database and email it to
you.
Q:
Can I
customize my script?
A:
Almost all of the scripts
we host permit you to modify the color scheme, change the theme, upload your
own logo and make other desired changes from within the admin control center.
Again, you can check to see what type of customizations your script
permits by simply viewing the demonstrations provided on each script page.
All accounts comes with true FTP access, allowing you to upload mods, plugins,
themes, and other such extras.
Q:
Can I
use my account to put up a 'regular' website?
A:
You can use your account
to create a static web site that can include HTML, Java, CSS, Javascript,
DHTML or just about anything else you want in addition to your script. Each
account comes with true FTP access for this purpose.
Q:
How do
I upgrade my script?
A:
Current remote-hosting
customers of ours can request an upgrade of their script when it becomes
available by simply opening a ticket at the
Help Desk.
It is important to point out that when you do choose to upgrade, any modules,
add-ons, plugins, language files, themes, logos or other modifications you
have made to the script may be overwritten and might need to be reinstalled
or reimplimented again (after the upgrade) so you should back up these things
prior to putting in a request. We will make a database backup of your script
prior to doing any upgrades to prevent and/or minimize any loss of data.
Upgrading should not affect the content (posts, articles, etc) of your script
in any way. You can find out if an upgrade of your script is available by
checking our news
section from time to time.
Q:
How do
I configure email in my script?
A:
We provide standard
POP3/SMTP email service with each remote hosting account which can be used
to configure your script and to set up an email account in Outlook Express,
Thunderbird, Netscape or other email client. You can either use the
email settings included in your welcome email -or- the settings given to
you by another provider. These settings typically include your username,
password and SMTP server address. Of course, these settings are normally
not needed for PM's (private messages), chats, internal member notifications,
message posting or other internal communication features of most scripts
since these features do not generally use SMTP.
Q:
How do
I access my email via the internet?.
A:
Each remote hosting
account comes with three different flavors of webmail (Horde, NeoMail and
Squirrelmail). You can access your mail control panel by going to the following
URL...
http://www.your_user_name.tuxfiles.com/webmail
Once logged in, you
can send and receive email, set up an autoresponder or forwarder, change
your password and use tools like an address book, memos, calendar and task
manager. Spam control and a variety of other options/features are also
available.
Q:
How do
I recover my username and/or password?
A:
Practically all scripts
today have some type of password recovery capability. In fact, some even go
beyond this and are able to recover lost usernames, passwords, email addresses
and personal "hints". Please make sure to keep any usernames and passwords
you create in a safe place since we have no control over these and thus,
no way of recovering this information for you.
Q:
Using
your private CGI-BIN and configuring scripts...
A:
Each remote hosting
account comes with it's own private CGI-BIN for running Perl scripts. The
vast majority of Perl/CGI scripts must be configured before they will work.
Some scripts may use an auto-installer which can automatically detect your
settings and install the script for you but in any case, most will require
some level of configuration and input on your part. This usually involves
setting the path to the Perl interpreter (ie; #!usr/bin/perl) as well as
setting the correct permissions on various files and folders. It is important
to remember to upload all Perl/CGI scripts (.pl and .cgi) in the ASCII (text)
mode and to make sure that the proper permissions/paths have been set or
the script may not function correctly (or at all). Below is the information
you will need for configuring your Perl/CGI scripts...
* Perl version:
5.8.1
* Path to Perl:
/usr/bin/perl
* Path to Sendmail:
/usr/sbin/sendmail
* Path to your
CGI-BIN: /home/t7s9k4v8/public_html/your_user_name/cgi-bin
* Path to your main
folder: /home/t7s9k4v8/public_html/your_user_name
* URL of your
CGI-BIN: http://your_user_name.tuxfiles.com/cgi-bin
* URL to test
script: http://your_user_name.tuxfiles.com/cgi-bin/test.pl
Q:
How do
I change the name of my password-protected folder's login
window?
A:
The default name of
all password-protected folder login windows is "Members Only". To change
this to something else, for example "My Stuff", simply FTP into your account
and locate the folder under your main account called "private". In this folder
you will see a file called ".htaccess and in that .htaccess file you will
see the following code...
AuthType
Basic
AuthName
"Members Only"
AuthUserFile
"/home/t7s9k4v8/.htpasswds/your_user_name/private/passwd"
require
valid-user
Download this .htaccess
file and change the AuthName from Members Only to My
Stuff, save it in your text editor using the "all files" mode and upload
it back to your private folder, overwriting the original one. Now, go to:
http://your_user_name.tuxfiles.com/private and you should see
the new name in your password-protected folder's login window.
It is important to remember
that your password-protected folder (and any folders beneath it) will require
a user name and password for access. If you lose your password,
let us know
and we will send you a new one.
