FTP is an abbreviation for "File Transfer Protocol".
An FTP client is used to upload files to the web server. Before you can use
an FTP client, you will first need to configure it using the information
we sent you in your welcome email. Below is a simple tutorial demonstrating
how to do this. The following configuration screen is for CuteFTP. You can
download a 30-day evaluation copy of their software
here.
You will notice in the first feild, you are asked
for a Label For Site. You can type any name
into this space including the name of your site (ie; "Ann's Gadget Site").
In the second feild there is a place for entering your
FTP Host Address. Simply type "tuxfiles.com"
into this space (without the quotation marks). Next, in the
FTP Site User Name feild, type in your username
and in the FTP Site Password feild type in your
password. You should leave the port number at 21 as this is the standard
port for FTP operations. Also, make sure that you use "Normal" for the
Login Type and remember to always upload files
in the passive mode. Below are instructions for configuring
WS_FTP.
Configuring WSFTP is similar to configuring CuteFTP.
You will notice in the first feild, you are asked for a
Host Name. Simply type "tuxfiles.com" into this
space (without the quotation marks). Next, in the UserID
feild, type in your username and in the
Password feild type in your password (note:
the UserID and Account should be the same). You should leave the port number
at 21 as this is the standard port for FTP operations. Also, make sure
to use "Normal" for the Login Type and again,
remember to upload files in the passive mode.
